Background

Mr. Tomas graduated with honors from the University of Miami, School of Law in 2003. During law school, he interned with the Miami-Dade state attorney’s office and served as an editor for the Inter-American Law Review. Mr. Tomas then earnedhis L.L.M. (Masters of Law) in Taxation from the University of Miami in 2006. Prior to law school, he earned a Master’s Degree in Taxation from Florida International University and has been a C.P.A. (Certified Public Accountant) in Florida since 2002.

Mr. Tomas is a Florida Board Certified Tax Attorney, a Florida Board Certified Criminal Attorney and a Florida Certified Public Accountant. He focuses his practice on two main areas – Tax Law and Criminal Law. Mr. Tomas serves of-counsel through his firm to Maldonado Law Group to support particular projects and matters related to Post COVID-19 legal services for businesses.

Tax Law Practice

Mr. Tomas has successfully represented clients against the Internal Revenue Service (I.R.S.) at the field office and appeals level, as well as before the United States Tax Court. He has also assisted business owners and corporate executives with federal tax matters arising from audits, tax fraud, tax evasion other situation requiring litigation in federal tax court or in the federal district courts with the I.R.S. His Tax Law practice includes defense with Florida Department of Revenue Auditsand tax matters including issues of Florida Sales Tax and Florida Communications Service Tax (CST).He provides tax consulting and planning to help prevent I.R.S. or Florida Department of Revenue (FDOR) issues. This includes Offshore Tax Compliance and corporate tax record keeping practices.

Mr. Tomas works with our Post CONVID-19 debt management projects and Assignment for Benefit of Creditors (ABC) team to assist businesses that desire to close their doors after quarantine shut-down orders but seek to shield or reduce owner liability that would typically occur by virtue of a voluntary or involuntary dissolution of a Florida company.

Criminal Law Practice

Mr. Tomas has extensive experience at the state and federal level litigating all phases of criminal cases. He has defended clients charged with various white-collar crimes. His white collar criminal practice includes representation and litigation of RICO offenses, embezzlement, unlicensed MSB service, bank fraud, wire fraud, embezzlement, and tax fraud. Mr. Tomas provides clients guidance and consultation on corporate criminal matters and compliance. He works with corporate clients to develop compliance plans and policies to avoid criminal offense implications. He also represents corporations and business owners who have been victims of white collar crimes to properly report and document crimes committed against them or their businesses.
