Client On-line Consultations

The Maldonado Law Group offers the unique opportunity to meet with an attorney, or group of attorneys, practiced in a particular area of law via an interactive web-conference system. This type of web-conference allows both the client and the attorneys to share or work contemporaneously on documents, plan or strategize collectively, and reference case law or legal concerns much like an office visit. These consultations often involve pending transactions, regulatory changes, administrative proceedings, or potential litigation. PLEASE NOTE: the service is not available to perspective clients who have just become defendants in a current lawsuit at law or equity, and in any consultations regarding any active litigation, the client must show documentation that the complaint has been answered in a timely manner. Emergency motions and similar cases wherein time is of the essence are not intended for this service and will not be scheduled by the Maldonado Law Group.

The service is equally available to practicing attorneys seeking opinions and counsel on the law of our practice areas, or a specific legal issue related to them. In such circumstances, the service is not intended for MLG to serve as experts giving opinions for trial, or to be used for the purpose of verifying a complaint or legal issue. The service is made available to practicing attorneys to give consultation on strategy, share our experiences, and support the practicing attorney in their work. Any on-line consultation with an attorney must have the client represented disclosed prior to setting the online consultation so that MLG may perform a conflict check. Should the practicing attorney wish to have co-counsel from MLG on any particular case or matter, this would be done through our main office and is not an available service through the on-line consultations.

All MLG consultations must be scheduled at least three days in advance to the meeting and confirmed by MGL twenty-four (24) prior to conducting the web meeting. Any and all documents to be presented to the MLG within the consultation must be faxed or e-mailed twenty-four (24) hours prior in either PDF or MS-Word format.

Should the MLG have any limitation as to knowledge of law and procedure of a specific area or jurisdiction for any consultation, the client will be advised beforehand in order to also seek the opinion of other or local legal counsel. Should the client request legal research prior to their consultation, this shall be billed as a separate service from the firm.

Am I obligated to engage the MLG after the Online Consultation ? - No -
There are three purposes of the consultation:
1.) to get a legal opinion as to a particular matter as the client, or legal counsel for a client with a problem in our practice areas;
2.) to get an assessment of your legal problem or matter for proper referral to another attorney or firm; or
3.) to get an assessment of your legal problem or matter with the intent of retaining MLG. All these options are available to you in an Online Consultation.

What documents need to be presented to MLG prior to the Online Consultation?
Any and all relevant documents must be received 24 hours prior to the online consultation. If you are not sure what these would be, contact us at e-consult@maldonado-group.com to confirm what we would require.

How much does it cost? - Generally $200.00 USD plus the cost of the web-conference service -
There are two costs included in the price of an Online Consultation. The first is the time that you will have with the attorney and review/preparation by in anticipation of the consultation. Second is the cost of the web-conferencing. For the attorneys’ time, MLG charges a flat fee of $200.00 USD for the first hour of consultation per attorney. This flat fee includes a review of your documentation, for up to 30 pages of documents, by the attorney. Should the legal matter be more complicated, or more than 30 pages of documents, then an additional review/ preparation fee will be required for each half hour of time necessary to prepare for your conference. Should a client wish an area or issue of law researched in advance of the on-line consultation, then this must be coordinated at the time that the consultation is scheduled and billed separately in advance. For the Online Consultation Service itself, there is an hourly charge of $90.00 USD for use and access to the system. The average cost of a one-hour consultation with an MLG attorney without advanced legal research is $290.00 USD for a one hour web conference consultation.
